Understanding Spirit Connections
Have you ever wondered whether the spirit you’re calling is truly listening? Or are you simply echoing your own expectations? Building a genuine connection with your spiritual court requires patience, discernment, and humility.
I’m here to share my method with you. Together, we can build from this foundation and adapt it to your own practice.
Step One: Research the Spirit
Building a relationship with a Deity, Spirit, or Daemon is much like forming connections with people in the real world.
Start with research. Look into books, blog posts, and personal accounts of others’ experiences with the spirit. What are they saying? What colors, directions, and elements are associated with them? What offerings do they enjoy?
Their correspondences and stories will begin to connect the dots. This will reveal how they communicate and in what forms they may show up.
Step Two: Introduce Yourself
The way you introduce yourself will depend on the goal you’re trying to achieve. Your intention here needs to be clearly defined. Here are three common relationship types:
A Devotee
To be a devotee means to have a deep commitment to a specific person, belief, cause, or Deity. This commitment may involve devoting your spiritual progression to just one spirit.
Being a devotee allows you to connect deeply to the current of the spirit you choose to work with. Depending on who you connect with, you may experience many aspects of that spirit or just one.
Being a devotee means learning the rituals and ways of the Deity. You apply those lessons in your daily life. This relationship is intimate and can grow and deepen over time.
The Ego Trap: For a devotee, ego may appear as obsession, superiority, or speaking for the Deity instead of with them. The ego will attempt to put the energy in a box. Sometimes, practitioners may use the name of the spirit as an intimidation factor when dealing with others.
A Student Of
When connecting to a spirit as a student, the relationship is different. You, the practitioner, approach the spirit in the energy of a learner. You are open to lessons and ready to receive.
You complete the work they give you and apply their teachings in your life. There may be levels to your education, and you might encounter the spirit in different forms as your progression unfolds. There will be homework, and you will be expected to complete it.
The Ego Trap: For a student, the ego often says, “I know a better way.” It avoids the work or treats the lessons as beneath you. Your role as a student is to listen, learn, and apply. Asking questions is always fine, but challenging the spirit’s authority can come across as disrespectful.
A Business Partnership
Connecting to a spirit as a business transaction is less intimate but still requires respect. The terms of your agreement should be clear, and proper thanks (or energetic payment) must be made.
This type of connection works best for short-term goals. You are connecting to a spirit who is an expert in your area of need and can help you achieve it efficiently.
The Ego Trap: In a business partnership, ego may whisper that you are superior to the spirit. It may suggest that only your terms matter or that you can cut corners.
Remember: you are equals, one working in the physical and the other in the energetic realm. Integrity matters, and shortcuts usually collapse the work.
The Seven-Day Introduction Ritual
The approach I take can be adapted to any of the methods above. The key is clear intention. This introduction ritual typically unfolds over seven days.
Day One: The Calling
The calling begins with your intention and research. On this day, make a formal introduction and invite the spirit’s energy into your space.
You may receive silence or a sign; both are valid. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t hear or sense anything immediately. Some spirits test your patience and sincerity. Demons are notorious for this.
I prepare a seven-day glass candle in a color corresponding to the spirit. On the glass, I write my intention using a chalk or metallic marker. I dress the candle with botanicals linked to the spirit and present a favorite offering.
Days Two to Six: The Listening
Spend the following days in meditation, sitting with the spirit’s energy. Have conversations about your goals, ideas, and how to strengthen your connection.
This is your personal experience, and it may differ from others working with the same current. Over time, you’ll begin to discern their presence and unique frequency.
Use divination tools to communicate, such as tarot cards or a pendulum. Pay attention to dreams, synchronicities, and symbols. Shifts in your energy or daily life may already be unfolding. Be still, be quiet, and listen. The universe whispers when she speaks.
Day Seven: The Offering
On the final day, create a special offering. This is the moment to formally ask to become a student, devotee, or to receive help with a specific goal.
If the spirit agrees to work with you, you may choose to create a contract, especially in a business-style relationship. When I request to be a student or devotee, I simply make a verbal request. Petition work is reserved for specific lessons I am trying to master.
Why This Connection Matters
Through this process, you begin to recognize how the spirit feels when it’s near and how it communicates with you.
For example, when Agrat and Naamah are close, I feel a flutter in my stomach. Agrat feels like excitement and anticipation, while Naamah feels like a tickling, sensual current.
In this ritual, you are learning to listen. The slower you move, the deeper the connection becomes.
Think of it this way: if you just met someone and asked for a favor within days, they might withdraw. But if you build a bond, express gratitude, and show respect, they’ll gladly go further for you. The same principle applies in spirit work.
Connecting in this way defines roles and helps you settle into your energy, whether as Devotee, Student, or Partner. One of you will operate in the physical, the other in the unseen, yet your efforts mirror one another.
Respect Above All
Always approach a spirit with the utmost respect. Attempting to place yourself above an ancient intelligence will cause them to withdraw their energy. Sometimes, they’ll teach a parting lesson you won’t soon forget.
When approached with humility, clarity, and reverence, these relationships not only transform your magic; they transform you.
To walk with the Divine is not about command; it is about communion.
Embracing Your Journey
As you embark on this journey, remember that every step you take is a step toward personal empowerment. Each connection you forge with the spirit world is a testament to your courage and willingness to grow.
Allow yourself to be guided. Trust in the process, and know that you are never alone on this path. The spirits are waiting, ready to embrace you with open arms.
